Chilly Gonzales

The Canadian musician, best known for his “Solo Piano” trilogy, has become one of the most sought-after artists of our time: After collaborative albums with Boys Noize, Jarvis Cocker and Plastikman, as well as his best-selling Christmas record and the TV special A Very Chilly Christmas, Chilly Gonzales returns to his rap roots on his latest album Gonzo. On Gonzo, the musician builds a bridge between provocative rap and classical music, combining lyrical artistry with the pianistic craft for which Gonzales has become internationally renowned in recent years as a true wizard of the keys.

Chilly Gonzales steps up to the microphone once again, even though Gonzo is by no means a pure rap album: Instrumental pieces such as the Stravinsky esque “Fidelio” or the deeply moving “Eau de Cologne” remind listeners of Gonzo’s extravagant “musical genius” persona, while the words and rhymes of the preceding verses linger in the ear—rhymes that are raw, unfiltered and direct, without ever losing his innate sense of melody.
