JULIA HÜSLMANN IS ARTIST IN RESIDENCE 2019

Whether performing in an octet, quintet or duo – Julia Hülsmann always thrills listeners with her “lyrical, understated improvisations”. And in 2019, Julia Hülsmann – ECM artist and one of Europe’s most distinguished jazz musicians – plays a key role at the ninth edition of ELBJAZZ. As Artist in Residence 2019, Hülsmann will perform in a total of three concerts in a variety of formations over the festival’s two days.

As part of a quintet – comprising her trio plus vocalist Theo Bleckmann and guitarist Werner Neumann – she’ll play reinterpretations of songs by the Beatles; she’ll perform in a duo with vibraphonist Christopher Dell; and, finally, the Julia Hülsmann Octet, an exceptional ensemble of musicians that includes ECHO Jazz winners Eva Kruse and Eva Klesse, will also be part of the ELBJAZZ 2019 programme.
