Many of you will already have suspected it – and the question of whether and under what conditions it might be possible to responsibly put on a festival attended by more than 30,000 people this summer also weighed more and more heavily on our minds as the days passed.

It is now confirmed: as a result of the continuing coronavirus pandemic, ELBJAZZ 2020 will not take place on 5 + 6 June. On the basis of today's general ruling issued by the Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the festival cannot be held this year.

We are relieved because we believe that the political decision is the correct one; because the health and wellbeing of all, and the flattening out and stabilising of the coronavirus curve, must be the number one priority at this time – not least so that we can take part once again in a lively social and cultural life as soon as possible.

However, we are – naturally – also deeply saddened. We’d been looking forward so much to celebrating our 10th anniversary with you! We have been working on this event for almost a year – on new ideas and a very special line-up. Once again, it was your commitment that drove us. That loyalty that makes it possible, not only in terms of morale but also financially, to turn a bold idea – a festival on the biggest active shipyard in the Port of Hamburg – into reality year after year. Because that is not something to be taken for granted.

Please be patient and give us some time to plan the next steps. We will let you know as soon as possible!
