The Savage Rose
Their debut album was released more than 50 years ago: The Savage Rose are rock legends, and not just in Scandinavia. Founded in Copenhagen in 1967, the band has released more than 20 albums. Their sound still draws on the golden age of psychedelic blues and rock, sprinkled with subtle elements from jazz and Nordic folk.
Only the singer Annisette Koppel is left from the original line-up – but “only” seems to be a misplaced word here. Koppel can be soft like Kate Bush or raw like Janis Joplin, and she has influenced generations of female Scandinavian artists, Björk among them, with her extraordinary voice and political engagement. She demonstrated her commitment to the issue of women’s rights most recently in her soulful comeback single “Woman”. At ELBJAZZ, Koppel, with her seven-strong band, will provide a potent demonstration of the inexhaustible power of blues.
