Irony is king! For example when the Horst Hansen Trio announces with great pomp their intention to celebrate 60 years on stage. And what is the story of Horst Hansen, the Krefeld jazz-dance musician from whom the formation takes its name? It’s all a little confusing with this band, which has never actually performed as a trio. The Horst Hansen Trio consists of five guys of around 30 years of age who perform in colourful socks and even more striking shirts, but who take their music very seriously indeed. Within a single song, the quintet unleashes the diverse colour spectrum of its bold “überjazz” – swing solos are followed by hip-hop vibes and jazz-rock escapades. Quite simply, the Horst Hansen Trio redefine the dusty concept of “dancing music”. With a Moog synthesiser, melodic brass and driving drum beats, they set alight songs such as “Born Wild to Be” and “Fusskampf”.
