Times are changing. “All these old men can’t tell me what to do”, sings Fieh in “Glu”, her first published song. It was a hit in her native Norway – and an unambiguous dig at a music industry that is still dominated by old men. Fieh (pronounced “Fia”) is the artist name of 24-year-old Sofie Tollefsbøl. And by now it is also the name of her band: the singer met her drummer and bass player at a festival, the rest of the eight-strong group came together at the Music Academy in Oslo.
Collectively, they cook up a tasty concoction of NuSoul, R’n’B and funk, and their infectiously euphoric live shows are the icing on the cake. Anyone who has seen Fieh rampaging around a stage in gaudy outfits will not forget the performance in a hurry. Their debut album will be released in 2019 – Sir Elton John has already declared himself a fan.
