Acher Sommer Enders

Micha Acher not only plays bass and tinkers with sounds for The Notwist, he is also a graduate pianist and trumpeter. From time to time, the Bavarian musician can be seen playing a strangely cumbersome instrument that is carried around the body: the sousaphone, a bass tuba with a forward-pointing bell that is often used in marching bands. In the trio Acher Sommer Enders, this impressive brass instrument meets the saxophone and drums. An unconventional combination of instruments for three unconventional musicians who blend New Orleans sounds with free and modern jazz. Johannes Enders, who developed his saxophone playing under American greats such as Branford Marsalis, and Acher have known each other since they were children, and they played together in the band Tied & Tickled Trio. Drummer Günter “Baby” Sommer belongs to the first generation of European free jazz musicians: a Saxony legend who still has a youthful fire in his belly at the age of 76.
